Helping The Environment In Our Own Little Way

Last year was the hottest year on record. Last decade was also the warmest decade on record. If that’s not enough, this year is predicted to be even warmer. After that, the next year, then the next, so on and so forth. This is our environment now and we have to either live with it or try to change it for the better.

That should already give you an idea of the crucial time we’re living in. We’re basically living on the edge.  If we don’t do something about it now, the next generation will experience the harshest winters then the hottest summers right after. That is simply not the way to live, and we only got ourselves to blame for it.

For decades now, we have known the effects of greenhouse gases yet we ignored it. We are doing something now, true. But make no mistake, we’ve ignored it for as long as we can. It is only now that we are actually doing something because it literally threatens our whole existence. That is the only reason we’re doing something today. If not for that, we’d probably continue doing what we’ve been doing for the last decade. That is just human nature.

What can you do to help?

After reading that above, most people would want to help. After all, that is their existence on the line. Well, not entirely true. The people who will experience the devastating effects of climate change are the generations in the future, not us. It is not us, this generation, that will suffer the devastating effects of climate change but the ones after. But that shouldn’t matter. We must do what we can to help slow down or perhaps even stop climate change altogether.

You may think that you’re just a small person and have nothing to offer. That’s where you’re wrong. Even the smallest people can make a difference. Reach a good number of people that are willing to make changes to their way of life and they will make a dent to climate change. It is a global problem after all. It will need global cooperation on all levels.

Helping in your own small way

You can help in your own little way by making small sacrifice. For instance, you can save electrical energy when you can. Perhaps unplugging your appliances before you go out. That may not seem like much but it is something. Imagine if more and more people participate in this global effort, that will be enough.

Another thing you can do is to get an energy-efficient home. If you’re still in the process of building your house, you need to find ways to make it energy efficient. Unknown to many, buildings and houses leave a substantial carbon footprint on the environment. It is up to us to create better designs that make better use of energy. There are many designs available online with available tips to saving electricity as well.
